Our Cry

Our Cry

It is often said that the future belongs to the youth ;however,  what is not said is that the quality of that future correlates with the preparations made in the present. Dominica like many other Countries, the world over, finds itself in a very unfortunate position. A position in that the youth of today are preoccupied in every affair other than that which will secure the bright future that the very survival of their countries are dependent on. The work and dedication that is required in that effort is monumental but none the less it is work that must be done. Any nation that is blessed with youth that is knowledgeable of GOD and self and is willing to utilize that knowledge not only for the advancement of that nation but the world by extension is a nation with a solid foundation for prosperity.

For too many generations the young people at any given time in history have neglected to do what is most important for their well-being as individuals, and also collectively, and that is to organize themselves.  It was the great Marcus Garvey who said “Get Organized And You Compel the World To Respect You”, we then must ask ourselves how many young people of today or yesterday are familiar with the principles and ideology of Marcus Garvey. The same could be ask of Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael or Steve Biko; how many have researched the leadership qualities of Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba or Kwame Nkrumah? What about the teaching of Dr. John Henrik Clark, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing or Dr. Amos Wilson? Do the young people of today listen to the inspiring music of the great Peter Tosh? Have they followed the writings of Carter G Woodson or Frantz Fanon?

It is said that history is a weapon and if the young people of this country were to arm themselves with the knowledge of our history there is no battle that cannot be won. We understand the distractions are many and to compound that problem the opportunities are few, however when opportunities are scarce, rather than surrender, the responsibility is ours to create our own. It was Marcus Garvey again who said “Up, You Mighty Race, Accomplish What You Will”. With the creation of the Dominica Empowered Youth Movement we have heard Garvey’s call. With the D.E.Y we will seek to build young men and young women of character. As the ancient Egyptian builders constructed pyramids so to shall we build character, using honesty, kindness, respect and courage as our tools of the trade.  Furthermore we will arm these young men and women; warriors, with not only historical facts surrounding these entities but with opportunities to change the future, starting with the present. We will present to the Dominica, these young men and women who understand and appreciate the true value and meaning of life, this beautiful country deserves nothing less. As a movement we will strive to build on the foundation that was laid down by those who have gone before, we will build pillars of peace, love, togetherness and prosperity.

The youth of today are scared to dream; hopelessness has crept in like a thief in the night and stole the desire to do so. Young people must be encouraged to dream and dream big, however coupled with the dreams must come action, action that is directed at creating not only a better Dominica but a better world. Make no mistake about it we understand we are at war, war with illegal drugs, alcohol and violence but we have organized an army armed with knowledge in the disciplines of Economics, World Politics, Technology, True Word History, Sociology, psychology and law to fight these enemies wherever they may be. Standing on the shoulders of our ancestors and GOD at the heart of all we do, there will be nothing we can’t accomplish.

It is only fitting we end with a final quote from Garvey, one that every young person should live by,

“God and Nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always that great law. Let the sky and God be our limit and Eternity our measurement”.
